Which Lamp Wire Is Hot?
If you are working with electricity not unlike guns you should always proceed with the idea that both wires is loaded / hot. There are certain symbols in the trade you can recognize as what is supposed to be the hot wire.
- Red, blue or black is line voltage
- White should be the return line
- Green is supposed be the earth ground wire – 0 volts
- Smooth should be the neutral / return line
- The irrigated lined or striped wire in the primary voltage in.
But as mentioned before never trust these symbols or even your volt meter. Always proceed as if the circuit might be live unless you have both ends of the cable in front of you.
